Well technically it was fog banks, and I find those often even more atmospheric :)
Shame tho, you live in a desert? hehe

Hmm.. well if you dont got mist, make mist ^^
Bucket o' water, frozen carbondioxide pellets or plates (do NOT touch with bare hands for the love of god).
Put the pellets, and or plates in the bucket. Place the bucket high (as this stuff tends to cover the ground/floor mostly) and fan it out into the air.
Smoke machines like they use in discos and nightclubs could also work. Maybe you know someone in showbiz or the likes that can hook you up :)

i hate the smell of smoke machines
and u know ive held dry ice in my hands for minutes before and it didnt do any thing

Not all smoke machines are scented, usually its vanilla I think.
Weird, isn't that like -76 degrees celcius or something? I hurt my hands just from keeping em in the snow too long O.o
Alternatively you could set something ablaze I suppose, or figure out some way to use steam...allthough I wouldnt recommend either as steam fogs up the lens and setting stuff on fire can get you in trouble hehe..

Mebbe you'd be more pleased doing polar or arctic, snow and/or the likes type shots then ;)
